The purpose is to export a video edited in Premiere in the AV I DivX format that can be read on most of the Computers. My parameters have been studied in order to be easy and to give the possibility for older computer owner to read DivX files (at least 400MHz computers)
The chosen method consist in exporting a AVI DivX file with low compression level directly with Premiere and then make improvements on the DivX file under VirtualDub, which has better function to manage DivX files.
Before starting : You need an edited video or a file to export in the Editing Window of Premiere. Be careful to select the Working Area with the yellow bar at the top of the editing window.

Select Export -> Sequence in the file Menu |

Therefore the window now on screen can display 5 sub-menus of settings that we will now look closer at one after the other. |

File type must be set to Microsoft AVI instead of AVI DV, which is the default setting. select Working Zone |
2. Video

In this Sub-Menu comes the setting of the DivX CODEC at play. The codec has to be setup in windows so as to appear in the list. The picture size should stay as big as possible. The default DV size 720 x 576 is perfect. Once this has been done the next step is to set the Codec Settings. |

In the Profiles Tab deselect the Profiles use in order to be able to set the coming parameters manually. |

The Bitrate tab provides encoding type and quality settings. After a few try, I found a easy and efficient configuration People kean on Bitrate and 2 pass encoding please look for other tutorials on the internet but you can still use them in the second step in VirtualDub. |

The only setting that need to be set up here is Performance/Quality that should be on Medium |
3. Audio
Nothing must be set here since Premiere is not able to manage Sound Compression. Default settings are good.
4. Image Clé / Rendu
The same here, Nothing to be changed or maybe tick the Optimimize check box.
5. Correction

We won't use the deinterlace filter provided with Premiere but the one in VirtualDub, which is much better. |
Start the file export taking care of the file size that can be huge due to
the small compression selected.
This seconde step consist in using filters to correct the DivX file created with Premiere and recompress it.
1. Video Settings
Load the DivX file you just created with Premiere.

Then Select Full Processing in the Video Menu After that open the sub-menu Compression |

The same way you did it in Premiere, set the settings of the DivX codec Quality Based : 87% => 1h give 650MB |
Now you need to set the filters up in the Video Menu

Set the 2 filters up
Blend mode is the best one I have chosen to reduce the width and height by 2/3 of the original size : result is : 480 x 384
Thanks to this size the film can be played on slow PCs.Precise bicubic is a good resizing mode.
2. Audio settings

Activate the Audio the Audio compression by selecting Full Processing Open then the Compression sub-menu |
Sub-Menu Compression
If the MP3 codecs are not in the list or if the sample rate you want ar not available, I advice you to install a codec pack including MP3 codecs such as Nimo 5 and install only the MP3 FrauenHaufer or Lame codec
If everything is already correct select
128 kBits/s, 32 kHz, Stereo
OR
128 kBits/s, 44kHz, Stereo
if you original sound was in 44kHz on your DV file
